Health Camp on Posture and Ergonomics for Antenatal Women by Faculty of Physiotherapy
May 12, 2025

The Faculty of Physiotherapy at SGT University organized a specialized Health Camp on Posture and Ergonomics Awareness for Antenatal Women on 9th May 2025 at PHC Daulatabad. The initiative aimed to educate expectant mothers on maintaining correct posture during daily activities to minimize physical strain, discomfort, and potential pregnancy-related complications.
Led by Dr. Renuka Jakhar, along with six MPT and BPT students, the camp engaged antenatal women visiting the Primary Health Centre, delivering practical knowledge on posture management and ergonomic practices.
The session began with an insightful introduction to the physiological changes during pregnancy and the critical role of ergonomics in promoting maternal health. Demonstrations were conducted on proper sitting postures, emphasizing the importance of using back support, avoiding slouched positions, keeping the back straight, and maintaining balance with both feet flat on the ground.
Guidelines for correct standing postures advised against prolonged standing and recommended distributing body weight evenly across both legs. For resting positions, the benefits of left-side lying were discussed, with suggestions to use pillows between the knees and under the abdomen to improve circulation and support spinal alignment. Participants were also instructed on safe techniques for transitioning between lying and sitting positions.
Interactive discussions, visual aids, and practical demonstrations made the session highly engaging. Additionally, participants received guidance on safe movement techniques during household chores to prevent injuries, and tailored exercises were prescribed to support overall well-being.
The camp successfully raised awareness about the importance of ergonomics in antenatal care and contributed to enhancing maternal health and comfort within the community.
