Excursion and Educational Visit to CMC Vellore – A Transformative Experience for PG Nursing Students of SGT University

The recent educational visit to the College of Nursing, Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, was an incredibly enriching experience for the postgraduate nursing students. The exposure to CMC’s excellence in nursing practice across specialities left a lasting impression.

A strong emphasis on quality nursing care, delivered through well-structured fellowship programs. Nurses were deeply involved in holistic patient care. The Family Health Clinics stood out for their nurse-led approach, where nurses independently provided treatments and prescriptions. The Maternity Unit, with its high delivery rate, showcased the critical role of nurses in labour and postnatal care. Services such as stoma care, a nurse-managed hospice centre, and diabetic education reflected the advanced and autonomous roles of nurses.

A key highlight was the seamless integration between the College and the clinical areas, strengthened through robust faculty exchange programs. CMC’s unique organisational structure—featuring key roles of the Nursing Superintendent, Medical Superintendent, and Dean of the College of Nursing—ensures excellence in both education and patient care.

Adding to this academically rich journey, the group also enjoyed an excursion to Chennai, where students engaged in a variety of recreational activities. From exploring iconic landmarks to enjoying local cuisine and coastal views, the Chennai excursion provided a much-needed blend of relaxation and team bonding.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the entire CMC Vellore team for their warm hospitality, valuable insights, and for inspiring us through their exemplary standards in nursing. This visit has been a truly eye-opening journey in professional learning and growth!
