About SMCEC
The critical question of environmental ethics is not merely what can be done with the land but what should be done with it.
The Faculty of Law, SGT University in collaboration with Trust Legal has established the Sudhir Mishra Centre for ESG, Environmental Law & Climate Change (SMCEC) which is a strategic effort to address such urgent global challenges and facilitate legal research, policy advocacy, and public outreach on key environmental challenges.
Protection of the environment is not only a matter of awareness but also of having a strong legal and institutional structure, which in turn has motivated us to set up this Centre. We attempt to enhance the understanding of environmental protection and sustainability and push for their stronger enforcement through this Environmental Law & Climate Change Centre.
The Centre draws its inspiration from the Central Empowered Committee Of the Supreme Court, a powerful environmental law management body that has, over the last two decades, passed significant orders and monitored the conservation of flora, fauna, and protected areas across the country.
The Center embodies the spirit of environmental protection through strategic engagement, research, and community-based initiatives aimed at advancing environmental sustainability and conservation efforts. The center acts as an institution where legal know-how, research, and action could converge to act on the changing challenges in environmental protection.

ABOUT US
The increasing complexity of environmental challenges, coupled with the growing need for legal expertise in addressing environmental issues, The Faculty of Law, SGT University in collaboration with Trust Legal takes pride in establishing a dedicated platform, Sudhir Mishra Centre for ESG, Environmental Law & Climate Change (SMCEC) that offers legal support, education, and advocacy in environmental matters. The Centre is named after the foremost environmental lawyer of the country, Mr. Sudhir Mishra. This initiative aims to cater to the increasing need for interdisciplinary expertise in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, environmental law, and climate change policies. SMCEC endeavors to conduct socio-legal research, organize various workshops, seminars, symposium & conferences for legal professionals, lawyers, research scholars, students, and general public, and to conduct a moot court on Environmental Law under the aegis of SMCEC.
With a focus on Climate Change, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, and Sustainability, SMCEC serves as a bridge between students, policymakers, and communities to foster positive environmental change.
With an emphasis on socio-legal research and community engagement programs, the center will act as a think tank and Climate Change ESG Hub. In Collaboration with Trust Legal, a renowned law firm known for its expertise in environmental law, the SMECE provide legal support and strategic direction for conservation efforts, ensuring that environmental justice is served through sound legal frameworks.
