National workshop on pharmacovigilance
One day Workshop on Pharmacovigilance- “Recent Advances in Pharmacovigilance for Ayurveda drugs” organized by the Department of Dravyaguna & enthusiastic support of entire FIIMS team under the guidance of Conveners- Dean-FIMS, Prof. Anil Sharma, Associate dean- Dr. Vidyavati. V. Hiremath, Chief Organizing secretory – Professor Naresh Kumar Garg, HOD, Dept. of Dravyaguna, FIMS, Organizing secretory- Dr. Manjula, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Dravyaguna, FIMS and Dr. Ravi Kaushik, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Dravyaguna, FIMS on 19th March 2025. The workshop commenced with Dhanwantari Vandana, welcome Address by the Dean, FIMS, addresses were delivered by PVC - Medical & Health Sciences, SGTU and Chief Guest of the conference Prof. Vd. Kartar Singh Dhiman, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Shri Krishna AYUSH University, Kurukshetra emphasizing the importance of pharmacovigilance in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
All the experts were eminent figures in the field with a rich academic profile who gave the extract of their more than 20- 30 years experience in a short period. Prof. Vd. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences discussed about Drugs and Magic Remedies Act and Impact of Misleading Advertisements, Laws and code of practice governing the advertising of medicinal products in India. He also make the participants aware of the research activities of CCRAS along with reporting and legal actions for misleading advertisements. Dr. Galib, Additional Professor & HOD IN charge, Dept. of Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana, All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi expressed his views on “Drug Discovery and Development Phases and Introduction to Drug Safety”. He gave insight to latest Gazettes, alongwith many published and unpublished documents; when, where and whom to report ADR’s which will prove to be appropriate guidance to the audience comprising of many medical officers and future doctors. Also, he gave an introduction to the latest methods used in drug discovery.

Jaipur, deciphered the need of Pharmacovigilance in AYUSH Drugs and Adverse Drug Reactions with classical and contemporary references. Unlike modern pharmaceuticals, AYUSH drugs are derived from natural sources, and while they are generally perceived as safe, they can still cause adverse drug reactions (ADRs) due to factors like improper dosage, contamination, or interactions with other medications. He encouraged the participants to not to hesitate and report ADR’s positively as it is not a complain or to defame our science. Instead, it will augment in scientific development of Drugs and
assist in 5 steps of Pharmacovigilance i.e. detection, assessment, understanding, prevention and treatment.
A Panel Discussion was conducted allowing participants to interact with the experts and seek clarifications on the discussed topics. More than 500 delegates across the country participated in the conference. The conference concluded with session summary report by Associate dean- Dr. Vidyavati. V.Hiremath and National Anthem.
