Vedic Dhoop: Ayurvedic Solution for Natural Indoor Disinfection | Synergy 2024

Updated on: November 07, 2024

Abstract:

This blog talks about a project presented by Ayurveda students of SGT University at its Synergy Tech-fest 2024. It presents a natural, non-irritant, and effective room disinfectant solution using Ayurvedic ingredients.

Problem Statement:

At a time when chemical-based solutions are prevalent in every household, ancient practices revive new air in both the literal and figurative sense. In creating the Vedic Dhoop: a product meant to purify and deodorise indoor environments without poisonous chemicals, we compiled knowledge from classical texts and applied it to current needs.

How It Was Made:

It has really been a very hands-on, insightful experience for all of us in the group as we worked through every single step, from the acquisition of raw materials up to the final production and then the presentation of the product.

Our research began with the exploration of which herbs and resins are traditionally added to the Ayurvedic Dhoop due to their disinfecting and purifying properties. Medicinal plants like Vidanga, Haridra, Ushira, Arjuna, Karpoor, Gugglu, etc, known for their antimicrobial and therapeutic effects, were chosen.

The problem was not only how to source the right ingredients but also ensuring their quality for Ayurvedic formulations. Once we identified our raw materials, we assumed full responsibility for sourcing them from trusted and genuine suppliers.

With all raw materials on board, we proceeded to the Ras Shastra lab to prepare the dhoop balls for the alchemy process. Using traditional methods, it had been converted to smooth, fragrant dough from herbs, resin, and binders, which were shaped into incense balls.

The Synergy of Nature and Science:

The core of our project lies in the intimate integration of ancient knowledge based on Ayurveda with modern scientific practices. Ayurveda has long understood the merits of smoke from certain herbs in purification, clearing minds, and making an environment more peaceful. With an understanding of the therapeutic properties of plants, we came up with a product that not only disinfects but also positively influences emotional and mental well-being.

Vedic Dhoop is a non-irritant and chemical-free alternative to many synthetic disinfectants marketed today. Unlike most commercial air fresheners or room sprays containing synthetic fragrances and poisons, our dhoop contains only natural ingredients. It has been carefully designed so that it purifies air by removing harmful pathogens, all while offering the soothing benefits of aromatherapy.

A New Age of Natural Disinfection:

At the culmination of our project, we displayed Vedic Dhoop at a stall in Synergy 2024 and highlighted the fact that it is safe as well as chemical-free for both adults and pets. It generated a positive response because of its eco-friendly qualities, with many people showing interest in using it as a natural disinfectant in daily routines.

At this juncture when clean indoor air is considered a critical need, Vedic Dhoop emerges as an eco-friendly alternative, highlighting that ancient practices are quite capable of solving modern health issues.

Conclusion:

Vedic Dhoop was a journey in reviving Ayurvedic tradition, infusing science, nature, and culture into the making of a functional, healing product. Vedic Dhoop inspires others to join hands to unite traditional wisdom and modern innovation for a healthier, sustainable future.
