SGT University Celebrates Creativity with Block Printing Workshop by Faculty of Design
21st March 2024

On March 21, 2024, the Faculty of Design hosted an experiential learning workshop on block printing, offering students and faculty a hands-on opportunity to explore this traditional art form. The workshop introduced participants to the creative process of block printing and its applications in contemporary design.
The session began with an expert artisan guiding participants through the history and techniques of block printing. They then learned to create unique prints by carving intricate designs into wooden blocks. Participants experimented with colour mixing, fabric selection, and printing techniques, gaining insights into how traditional crafts can enhance modern fashion and design.
A highlight of the workshop was a fun, creative segment where students and faculty custom-printed garments using HOLI-themed block stencils. To celebrate the festival of colours, participants chose vibrant hues to imprint festive patterns on their clothing, crafting personalised and memorable pieces.
The workshop fostered a strong sense of community as students and faculty collaborated, experimented with designs, and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. This hands-on experience not only sharpened participants' block printing skills but also allowed them to celebrate creativity and tradition in a meaningful way.
