May 13, 2025

As part of the Social Outreach Programme of SGT University, “Samajik Vikas, SGT ka Prayas”, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Faculty of Dental Sciences, conducted a health awareness and screening camp at Government Senior Secondary School, Mankdola, Haryana on 13th May, 2025.
The outreach program was highly impactful, offering students essential insights into nutritional, mental, visual, and oral health while also evaluating key health parameters.
Department of Nutrition and Dietetics assessed the students’ nutritional awareness and educated them about the importance of a balanced diet in maintaining health and enhancing academic performance. Department of Neurosciences created awareness on topics promoting better brain health. Students of classes 7th and 8th were engaged in interactive sessions focusing on importance of proper sleep and mental health and the diverse functions performed by the brain. Particular emphasis was laid on how night-time electronic device over-usage affects brain health.
Department of Optometry conducted vision screening for all students to detect common eyesight issues. Students with vision concerns were referred for further evaluation and treatment, recognizing the crucial role of clear vision in learning and classroom participation. Department of MLT and Biochemistry set up a diagnostic station to screen the school students for basic health indicators such as haemoglobin levels and nutritional deficiencies. This helped identify students who may need additional medical care or dietary support. In addition, the Faculty of Dental Sciences performed oral hygiene check-ups for 68 students (32 girls and 36 boys). Toothbrush and toothpaste were distributed and students were educated on proper brushing techniques and importance of maintaining good oral hygiene.
Outreach activities like these help our students gain real-world experience, build empathy, and develop a deeper understanding of community needs, enriching both their personal growth and professional readiness.
